Das Hotel
Riviera aus den 50-er Jahren mit seiner Mafia Einrichtung liegt am Malecon,
etwa 5 km von der Altstadt entfernt. Es verfügt über einen Swimming Pool, den
wir einen Nachmittag benutzen um unsere blasse Haut etwas anzubräunen und
auszuruhen. Die Lage am Malecon ist ideal zum joggen, was ich auch zweimal tat,
obwohl es am ersten Morgen eine echte Herausforderung war, denn die grossen
Wellen spritzten eine Unmenge Wasser auf den Fussgängerweg und die Strasse!
The Hotel Riviera of the 50ies with its mafia furnishing is situated at
the Malecon about 5 km from the historic centre. It has a swimming pool where
we relaxed and sun tanned one afternoon. The Malecon is ideal to go for a run,
which I did twice, although it was a real challenge in the first morning as
huge waves brought a lot of water on the footpath as well as onto the street!

Mit dem Taxi
fuhren wir einige Male in die Altstadt La Habana Vieja, die wirklich äusserst
schön und gepflegt ist. Samstag Morgen trafen wir Luis Freund Luciano am Plaza
de Armas, wo eine öffentliche Literaturlesung stattfand, an der unter anderem
auch Luciano sein neustes Buch vorstellte. Danach
gab er uns eine Tour durch die Altstadt.
We visited the old historic town La Habana Vieja a lot of times by taxi
as it is really utmost beautiful and clean. On Saturday morning we met Luis’
friend Luciano at the Plaza de Armas where there was an open literature reading
going on and also Luciano was presenting his new book. Thereafter he gave us a
tour through the old town.

Auf der
andern Seite der Altstadt und des Canal de Entrada befindet sich die spanische
Festung Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña und das Haus, wo Che Guevara
wohnte… wir liessen uns von mit Humberto und Eduardo und deren Taxi durch den
Tunnel auf die gegenüberliegende Seite fahren um alles zu besichtigen und
erklären zu lassen. Die freundlichen Kubaner preisen überall ihre Dienste an um
einige CUC (Touristenwährung – in Cuba gibt es 2 Währungen!) zu erhaschen, sie
sind aber nie aufdringlich.
At the other side of the historic town and the Canal de Entrada there is
a Spanish fortress and the house where Che Guevara lived… Humberto and Eduardo
drove us with their taxi though the tunnel and gave us a fantastic tour. The
friendly Cubans offer their services everywhere to get some of the CUC (tourist
money – on Cuba there are 2 currencies!), but they are always kind and never
nasty.

Das
Abendessen nahmen wir beide Male in La Habana Vieja ein, einmal im hübschen und
hervorragenden Restaurant Doña Eutimia beim Plaza de la Catedral und das andere
Mal im altehrwürdigen Hotel Ingliterra.
Hier auf
Kuba ist wirklich alles anders… die Zeit scheint stehen geblieben zu sein! Nicht
nur die vielen alten oft liebevoll gepflegten Autos lassen einen immer wieder staunen,
auch dass die Leute hier um Seife betteln… Es gibt kaum Einkaufsmöglichkeiten,
und wenn, dann ist die Ware für die Einheimischen schlicht nicht erschwinglich
(sie verdienen 20 EUR pro Monat)! Auch Internetverbindung ist schwer zu finden
und sehr teuer. Ich versuchte den ersten Post meines Blog ins Internet zu
stellen, konnte aber meine Fotos nicht hochladen… so macht es wenig Sinn und
ich werde so weit wie möglich alles vorbereiten und später oder dann halt zuhause
alles ins Netz stellen! : (
Die
Temperaturen in La Habana waren tagsüber angenehm bis heiss und abends eher
kühl und sehr windig, so dass ich froh war, dass ich meinen Alpaca dabei hatte!

For dinner we went to La Habana Vieja both nights, once at the pretty and delicious restaurant Doña Eutimia close to the Plaza de la Catedral and the second night at the venerable Hotel Ingliterra.
Here on Cuba everything is quite different… it seems as if time had stopped! Not only all the old and often affectionately cared for cars makes you marvel again and again but also that people beg for soap… There are not a lot of shopes and if, goods are just too expensive for the Cubans (they earn 20 EUR per month)! Also Internet is hard to find and very expensive. I tried to put the first post of my blog online but was not able to upload my photos… like this it doesn’t make sense so that I will prepare as much as possible and try later or put everything online when I am back home! : (
Temperatures here in La Habana were comfortable to hot at daytime and at
night rather cool and very windy so that I was happy to have brought my alpaca
with me!
