Yade bereitete uns ein wundervolles Frühstück zu mit vielen frischen Früchten und Orangensaft – einfach alles was unser Herz begehrte!

Mural de la Prehistoria, Valle de Viñales

Um 10 Uhr fuhren wir los weiter Richtung Westen. Schon nach ein paar Kilometer wies ein Wegweiser zur Mural de la Prehistoria, eine 180 m lange Wandmalerei aus dem Jahren 1959 - 1966, die die Evolutionsgeschichte zeigt.

At 10 am we were ready to hit the road direction west. Only a few kilometers later a sign guided us to the Mural de la Prehistoria, a 180 m long picture on a cliff painted in the years 1959 - 1966, which shows the history of the evolution.

Danach fuhren wir der nordwestlichen Küste entlang, die in meinem Dumont Reiseführer empfohlen wurde…ausser einer Schlaglochpiste war aber leider wenig zu sehen! Wir mussten aber nicht nur den Löchern in der Strasse ausweichen, sondern auch vielen Tieren wie Schweine, Ziegen, Pferde, Kühe und Hunde. Glücklicherweise ist Luis ein guter Fahrer und ich die perfekte Copilotin! : )

Thereafter we continued along the north-western coast which was recommended by my Dumont guide… unfortunately there was not much to see except a road full of holes! There were not only holes in the road we had to avoid t but also lots of animals like pigs, goats, horses, cows and dogs. Luckily Luis is good driver and I am the perfect co-pilot! : )

Um 15 Uhr kamen wir dann endlich in unserem Tagesziel Maria La Gorda an und bezogen ein Zimmer im gleichnamigen Taucherhotel - aus mehr bestand dieser Ort gar nicht! Ich machte mich gleich auf dem langen und weissen aber schmalen Strand entlang zu joggen und im herrlich warmen und klaren Meer zu schwimmen – tat das gut nach einem Tag im Auto!

Weil dort sonst nichts zu tun war, begaben wir uns schon um 19 Uhr ins Hotelrestaurant zum Abendessen… und da es weder frisches Gemüse noch Kartoffeln gab, bestellten wir grillierten Fisch (auch nicht frisch aber gefroren, dabei hatten sie den Ozean vor der Türe!) mit Ananas - die einzige frische Frucht! Eigentlich hatten wir vor 2 Nächte zu bleiben, aber alles war gar nicht so paradiesisch wie es schien… der Strand war voller spitzen Korallen und Seeigel, die Unterkunft eher dürftig und das Restaurant eine Katastrophe! Zum Glück funktionierte die Kreditkartenmaschine beim Einchecken nicht, so dass wir es uns noch anders überlegen konnten, was wir dann auch taten.

At 3 pm we finally arrived at our destination of the day Maria La Gorda and took a room in the divers’ hotel with the same name - the hotel was the village! Just a few minutes later I went for a run along the long and white but narrow beach and for a swim in the wonderful warm and clear ocean – what a treat after sitting in the car all day long!

As there was nothing else to do here, we went for dinner to the hotel restaurant already at 7 pm… and because they had neither fresh vegetables nor potatoes, we ordered grilled fish (not fresh too but frozen, although they had the ocean in front of the door!) with pineapple – the only fresh fruit they had! Actually we intended to stay for 2 nights, but the paradise as not what it seemed… the beach was full of sharp corals and urchins, the room rather poor and the restaurant a disaster! Fortunately the credit card machine did not work when we checked in, like that we could think it over, which we did indeed.
